The Riddle

A good friend sent me the following riddle recently.  Take a look and see if you can figure it out.

80% of Kindergartners solved this riddle, but only 5% of Stanford graduates figured it out!

Can you answer the following question in one word?

1.  The word has seven letters.
2.  Preceded God.
3.  Greater than God.
4.  More evil than the devil.
5.  All poor people have it.
6.  Wealthy people need it.
7.  If you eat it, you will die.

NOTHING!

NOTHING has 7 letters.
NOTHING preceded God.
NOTHING is greater than God.
NOTHING is more evil than the devil.
All poor people have NOTHING.
Wealthy people need NOTHING.
If you eat NOTHING, you will die.

Although I am not very good at riddles and puzzles, by the time I got to "Preceded God" and "Greater than God", I was saying "Nothing" and didn't even realize that I had actually solved the whole riddle. Nothing!  An awesome riddle, don't you think?!!  As I reflected on that little word NOTHING, another thought came to mind and it was a verse .... “Nothing will be impossible for God!” - Luke 1:37. ...and as some of us Southerners would say ... now ain’t that just the truth?!!!

ACROSTIC

N - NOT ... a thing is impossible for our awesome God!

Matthew 19:26 "And looking upon them Jesus said to them, 'With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.' "

O - The 3 'O's: ... OMNISCIENT (He's all-knowing), OMNI-PRESENT (He's Everywhere), OMNIPOTENT (and He is All-Powerful)... that’s our God!

Psalm 44:21 "Would not God find this out?  For He knows the secrets of the heart." (...and the "thoughts of man" ( Psalm 94:11)

Deuteronomy 4:39 "Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the Lord, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other."

1 Corinthians 6:14 "Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power." (...because "He has made known to His people the power of His works." - Psalm 111:6 - Amen absolutely!)

T - THE ... Way, THE Truth and THE Life ... that’s our God’s Son ... Jesus ... whom He gave for us!

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me."

H - HE ... Jesus - our Lord and Savior - is the One and Only way to get to God through salvation!

Acts 4:10-12 "Let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead — by this name this man stands here before you in good health.  He (Jesus) is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders but which became the very corner stone.  And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."

I - I AM ... He is the great I AM ... that's our God ... the One and Only true GOD!

Exodus 3:14 "And God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM'; and He said, 'Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.' "

Isaiah 44:6 "Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and His Redeemer, the Lord of Hosts, 'I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides Me.' "

N - NO ... not one other God is there, in fact!

Isaiah 43:10-11 " 'You are My witnesses', declares the Lord.  'And My servant whom I have chosen, in order that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me.  I, even, I am the Lord; and there is no savior besides Me.' "

G - GOOD ... He is! ... just taste and see!

Psalm 34:8 "O taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!"

Psalm 106:1 "Praise the Lord!  Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His lovingkindness is everlasting."

NOTHING!

“I am the Lord, the God of every person on the earth. NOTHING is impossible for Me.”

You see, God is NOT "nothing"

... He is our EVERYTHING! ...

But WE are absolutely NOTHING without Him! 

Galatians 6:3 "For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself."

John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing."  ... that's Jesus talking!

Think about it!
