Flight from K2 to Kandahar
(1:30AM Sunday morning) Sitting
on the flight line awaiting the arrival of the C-130 that would transport
us to Kandahar Gary and I introduced ourselves
to a young civilian contractor by the name of Donnie, within the next
hour Donnie gained Life - for all eternity - by accepting the Gospel
of Jesus Christ! Hmmm, wonder why God diverted us to K2?
Arriving in Kandahar, the last stronghold of
the Taliban around 6:30AM Sunday morning we were met by our support
team and transported to our billets, an un-airconditioned tent, the
temperature already being close to 100 degrees! Dropping our gear we
proceeded to the chapel seeking out the one chaplin who had been seeking
us for the past two weeks! Just one more 'moment' to be experienced
by all! Attempting to manage this narrative, we had four (Great) presentations
that same day and two the next! The troops response was immediate and
so very personal - we have every right to be so proud of our men and
women in uniform here, THEY ARE IMPRESSIVE!
It was here also that we were able to connect
with the family members from our home town of Birmingham, Alabama via
Major Bass. In addition to his personal assistance we were also reunited
with LtCol Cheryl D. whom we had met way back at Frankfurt! Cheryl so
graciously provided us with, among other things a different location
to bunk, with A/C along with fans, sheets and pillows - it would be
the best night's sleep that we had had during our entire trip!
